A friend of mine posted a picture on our soccer WhatsApp group earlier this week. It was of the poolside at the Olympics.  And it featured a lifeguard resting his elbows on his floatation device and his head slumped into his hands.

And the caption?

“If you feel useless today, remember somebody is working as a lifeguard at the Olympics“.

Are you ever bored at work?

When you’re a business-owner you need to be positive.  You need to be persistent.

There may be days when you’re lonely.  There may be days when you’re lacking motivation.  And there may be days when you’re bored.  And that’s okay.  You’re only human.

That lifeguard will only be poolside for a maximum of 2 weeks.  And he has a story to tell his grandchildren.

But you’re different.  You’re “poolside” day after day.  Week after week.  Month after month.  Year after year.

So yeah – don’t sweat it if there’s an odd day when you’re bored.  But if there’s a pattern?  Well, that’s different.

I’m not going to lecture you about finding your passion and that’ll mean you’ll never work a day again in your life.  I think that thinking’s flawed as it conveniently ignores that there’s a lot of graft in business.

    But ask yourself this question:

Do you get a chance most days to do what you do best?

If not, then what’s preventing it?  What are the causes?  What are the obstacles?  Trying to answer those questions may be a good use of your time maybe?

PS: If you have employees, the above question is a good one to ask them too.  Why?  Because the more they’re engaged, the more money you’ll make. If you’re interested in more profit from boosting your employees’ engagement levels, take a look here. (It’s a page on another website of mine.)
